Why this site exists
Etsy's fees are not complicated because the rates are hidden. They are complicated because four different percentages apply to three different amounts — and almost nobody, including most fee calculators, applies them to the right one.
The method
Every number on this site is derived the same way:
- Each rate is applied to its correct base. The 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the item price plus shipping plus gift wrap, excluding sales tax. Payment processing is charged on the same amount plus sales tax. The regulatory operating fee excludes tax again. A calculator that uses one base for everything is wrong by design.
- Rates are checked against Etsy's own help pages — the Fees & Payments Policy and the Advertising & Marketing Policy — not against other blogs, which routinely carry pre-June 2026 regulatory rates.
- Worked examples are computed, not rounded by hand. The figures in the guides come from the same arithmetic the calculator uses, so the two never disagree.
What this site is not
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Etsy, Inc. "Etsy" is used descriptively, to refer to the marketplace whose fees sellers want to understand. No content here is financial, tax, or legal advice. Rates change — sometimes without much notice — and the authoritative source is always Etsy's own policy pages.
How the site is funded
The tools and guides are free, with no signup and no paywall. The site carries advertising to cover hosting. Advertising never influences the numbers: the calculator's arithmetic is fixed and published, and no fee figure on this site can be sponsored.
Corrections
If a rate here disagrees with what Etsy charges you, Etsy is right and this site is wrong — please say so at hello@craftfee.com and it will be fixed. Corrections are applied with a note on the affected page.
Rates last verified October 2026. See the privacy policy for how visits to this site are handled.
