Which fees does Etsy actually charge in 2026?
Etsy charges a stack of separate fees, and — this is the part most calculators get wrong — they are not all calculated on the same amount.
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per item | Every listing, and every extra unit sold |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item + shipping + gift wrap (not tax) |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 (US) | Item + shipping + gift wrap + tax |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0 – 1.97% | Item + shipping + gift wrap (some countries only) |
| Offsite Ads | 15% or 12% | The whole order, capped at $100 per order |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | Converted amount, only if the currencies differ |
Two details almost every calculator misses
1. Processing is set by your bank account, not your buyer. Etsy charges the payment processing fee according to where your bank account sits — so a US shop pays 3% + $0.25 whether the buyer is in Ohio or Osaka.
2. But Canada and Australia have a second, higher rate for foreign orders. Canadian shops pay 3% + C$0.25 on orders from Canada or the US, and 4% + C$0.25 on orders from anywhere else. Australia works the same way: 3% + A$0.25 domestic, 4% + A$0.25 international. Switch on Buyer is outside my country above and the extra point appears in the fee breakdown.
Why do different calculators give different answers?
Three reasons. Sales tax handled incorrectly (see above). Regulatory fees that changed on 22 June 2026 — the UK moved from 0.32% to 0.48%, France from 0.47% to 1.14%, Italy from 0.32% to 0.80%, Spain from 0.72% to 0.88%, and many sites are still running the old numbers. And Offsite Ads applied to the item price rather than the order total.
What is a normal profit margin on Etsy?
For handmade and print-on-demand sellers, a healthy target is 30–50% net margin after all Etsy fees and product costs. Below 15%, a single refund, return or promoted-listing click can push an order underwater — that is the "selling at a loss without knowing it" zone. The rating beside the results uses these bands.
Should I price shipping into the item, or charge it separately?
The transaction fee applies to shipping you charge, so both approaches cost the same in Etsy fees. What differs is buyer psychology and Etsy search ranking, which favours free shipping. Put the number in the shipping field and compare.
