What Etsy actually takes
Etsy charges four or five separate fees on a single sale, and they are not all calculated on the same amount. The Etsy fee calculator works out the real numbers in a few seconds, and these guides explain each fee line by line — so you can price with confidence instead of guessing.

Etsy Fees in the UK, and VAT
Why UK sellers pay more than US sellers, how the 0.48% regulatory fee works, and how to strip VAT out of a price that already includes it.
Etsy fees in the EU
One processing rate across the eurozone, six different VAT rates, and the three countries that add a regulatory fee on top. Worked examples in euros.
Etsy fees by country
Canada, Australia and Germany side by side — two-rate processing, GST/HST and VAT-on-fees, with the numbers that change by where your buyer lives.
Refund fees, line by line
Refund an order and most fees come back automatically — the listing fee only if you cancel too, the Offsite Ads fee never. The exact breakdown, with numbers.
The regulatory operating fee
The percentage that only exists in some countries, reset on 22 June 2026. Every current rate, and what it costs on a real order.
VAT on Etsy fees
Etsy taxes its own fee, not just your sale. Which countries a VAT ID switches off, which it cannot, and the rate in each.
Etsy tax, plainly
What Etsy collects and remits for you, what it never touches, and where the 1099-K fits in.
Offsite Ads explained
The 15% fee that turns a healthy sale into a break-even one. When you can opt out, when you cannot, and how the $100 cap works.
Listing fees, per item
The $0.20 that is charged more often than most sellers expect — on renewals, after every sale, and once per extra unit in a multi-quantity order.
How to price on Etsy
A pricing method that starts from the margin you want instead of the cost you paid, with worked examples and the discount floor to avoid.
Three calculators, one fee model
The fee calculator totals what Etsy takes. The profit calculator then subtracts your material cost and grades the margin A–F. The pricing calculator runs the same maths backwards, from the take-home you want to the price you should set. And the shipping calculator shows why charging postage separately changes nothing in fees — but a great deal in ranking.

Etsy's 2026 fee schedule at a glance
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing or renewal, plus each extra unit sold |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item + shipping + gift wrap (excludes sales tax) |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 (US) | Item + shipping + gift wrap + sales tax |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0 – 1.97% | Item + shipping + gift wrap, in some countries only |
| VAT or GST on Etsy's fees | 0 – 23% | Every fee above, outside the US — stop it with a VAT ID |
| Offsite Ads | 15% or 12% | The whole order, capped at US$100 per order |
| Sales tax on goods (US) | 0% | Buyer pays it; Etsy collects and remits it in most states |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | Your payout, when listing currency ≠ bank currency |
The three mandatory fees stack to roughly 11% of what the buyer pays on a typical US order, before advertising. Add an Offsite Ads order and the same sale passes 25%. That gap between 11% and 25% is the single most useful thing to understand about selling on Etsy.
Payment processing by country
| Country | Payment processing | Regulatory fee |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 | None |
| United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 | 0.48% |
| Canada | 3% + C$0.25 domestic, 4% international | 0.50% |
| Australia | 3% + A$0.25 domestic, 4% international | None |
| Germany | 4% + €0.30 | None |
| Netherlands | 4% + €0.30 | None |
| Spain | 4% + €0.30 | 0.88% |
| France | 4% + €0.30 | 1.14% |
| Italy | 4% + €0.30 | 0.80% |
| Ireland | 4% + €0.30 | None |
Etsy sets processing by the country of your bank account, and in Canada and Australia the rate is one point higher on orders from abroad. Regulatory operating fees changed on 22 June 2026 — France is now 1.14% and Hungary 1.97%, while the US, Germany and Australia still carry none. Verify your own rate in Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy before pricing anything. All amounts below are in each seller's own local currency, so compare the percentages, not the absolute figures.
What you keep on a 100 order, country by country
One order worth 100 in local currency, no shipping, no advertising, seller not registered for VAT. Same item, same price, ten different outcomes:
| Seller country | Processing | Regulatory | VAT/GST on fees | Total fees | You keep | Effective |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 | None | — | $9.95 | $90.05 | 9.9% |
| Australia | 3% + A$0.25 | None | A$1.00 | A$11.04 | A$88.96 | 11.0% |
| Canada | 3% + C$0.25 | 0.50% | C$0.53 | C$11.06 | C$88.94 | 11.1% |
| Germany | 4% + €0.30 | None | €2.08 | €13.05 | €86.95 | 13.1% |
| Netherlands | 4% + €0.30 | None | €2.30 | €13.27 | €86.73 | 13.3% |
| Ireland | 4% + €0.30 | None | €2.52 | €13.49 | €86.51 | 13.5% |
| United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 | 0.48% | £2.27 | £13.60 | £86.40 | 13.6% |
| Spain | 4% + €0.30 | 0.88% | €2.49 | €14.34 | €85.66 | 14.3% |
| Italy | 4% + €0.30 | 0.80% | €2.59 | €14.36 | €85.64 | 14.4% |
| France | 4% + €0.30 | 1.14% | €2.42 | €14.53 | €85.47 | 14.5% |
Three effects separate the top row from the bottom: European processing is one point higher, four of these countries add a regulatory fee, and outside the US Etsy taxes its own fees. The spread — 9.9% against 14.5% — is not a rounding difference. It is nearly five points of margin that a seller in France has to price back and a seller in the US never sees.
Assuming no VAT ID on file, so the tax on Etsy's fees is included. Canada uses the 5% federal GST floor — HST provinces pay more. The VAT on fees page explains which countries a VAT ID switches this line off in, and the calculator models your own numbers in any of the ten.
