Etsy pricing calculator — the price that covers your fees and your profit
Tell it your material cost and the take-home you want, and it works back the listing price that clears every Etsy fee. Then check that number against the typical price ranges for your category before you list.

What the pricing calculator does
Switch the calculator to "What should I charge?" and enter the take-home profit you want after fees. It solves the listing price backwards, accounting for the 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing, any regulatory fee and Offsite Ads — plus a break-even floor so you never price below cost. It works for all ten countries using each one's real rates.
Pick your target margin
The take-home you enter is your profit before your material cost is subtracted — so it is higher than the margin you will actually see. A useful rule: a 40–55% net margin is the healthy band for most handmade shops after Etsy's ~10% organic bite. Below 20% net, a refund or one ad click can erase the profit. Use the category table below to set a realistic target before you solve.
Pricing by category — typical ranges
These are rules of thumb, not laws. Multiply your material cost by the range to get a listing price, then confirm it clears your margin in the calculator above:
| Category | Price ÷ material cost | Net margin after fees |
|---|---|---|
| Handmade jewellery | 2.5–3.5× | 45–55% |
| Art prints & wall decor | 3–4× | 55–65% |
| Digital downloads | 4–6× | 65–80% |
| Home & living (handmade) | 2.5–3× | 40–50% |
| Clothing & accessories | 2.5–3× | 45–55% |
| Vintage & craft supplies | 2–3× | 30–40% |
For example, a piece that costs you $12 in materials, priced in the jewellery band at 2.5–3.5×, should list at roughly $30–$42. Run either end through the calculator to see the exact margin each delivers — the profit calculator grades it A–F, and the pricing method explains where the band comes from.
Worked example: $12 cost, jewellery band
| List price | Etsy fees (US, organic) | Take-home | Net margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| $30 | $3.30 | $14.70 | 49.0% |
| $42 | $4.08 | $25.92 | 61.7% |
Both clear the $12 cost comfortably. The higher price doubles the take-home for a 40% higher listing price — because Etsy's percentage fees only take a slice of the increase. That is why a small price rise flows almost entirely to profit once you are above break-even.
Don't forget the ad tax
If a meaningful share of orders arrive through Etsy's Offsite Ads, price for the 15% version, not the organic one. On that same $30 item, a 15% attributed ad fee adds $4.50 and pulls the net margin from 49% to about 34%. Switch the Offsite Ads toggle on in the calculator to see your real margin on ad-driven orders — the Offsite Ads page covers the opt-out threshold.
Quick answers
How do I price an item on Etsy to hit a target margin?
Add your material cost to the profit you want, then divide by one minus Etsy's effective rate. The pricing calculator does this for your country and prints the exact listing price plus a break-even floor.
What is a good markup for handmade goods?
Most handmade sellers price at 2.5–3.5 times material cost — a 40–55% net margin after fees. Art prints and digital products go higher because their material cost is a smaller share of the price.
Does free shipping change my price?
No. Etsy fees the order total whether postage is separate or folded in, so the price you need to clear your margin is identical either way. Free shipping is a search-ranking and conversion choice. See the shipping calculator.
